The City of
Garnett has closed the surface water of Crystal Lake (a/k/a "South
Lake") as of Wednesday afternoon, October 7, 2015, after water plant
personnel discovered a possible outbreak of blue-green algae.. The lake will
remain closed to the public until further notice as a safety precaution.
Cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, can produce toxins in recreational waters and has been implicated to human and animal illness in Kansas. KDHE officials have been notified.
